Underground coal gasification - Wikipedia

Underground coal gasification (UCG) is an industrial process which converts coal into product gas. UCG is an in-situ gasification process, carried out in non-mined coal seams using injection of oxidants and steam. The product gas is brought to the surface through production wells drilled from the surface. The predominant product gases are methane, hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.Coal mining - Underground mining | Britannica,Coal mining - Coal mining - Underground mining: In underground coal mining, the working environment is completely enclosed by the geologic medium, which consists of the coal seam and the overlying and underlying strata. Access to the coal seam is gained by suitable openings from the surface, and a network of roadways driven in the seam then facilitates the installation of service facilities,Underground coal - .GLOBAL,Underground operations require strict planning and tight operating disciplines to avoid becoming a critical bottleneck. Running an underground coal mine can be very challenging as many of the key processes are in series, and all need to be aligned with each other and operating at the target rate to get the tonnages out.
